Data Deletion Instructions
Effective: 4 August 2026
TapNation (Pty) Ltd accepts requests to access, correct or delete personal information processed through TapNation. These instructions cover the website, worker profiles, NFC and QR bands, payments, payouts and the WhatsApp balance service.
Request deletion or correction
- Email info@tapnation.co.za with the subject Data deletion request.
- Tell us whether you want access, correction, WhatsApp unlinking, profile removal, or deletion of other personal information.
- Include your name and the phone number or email associated with TapNation. A worker can also include their public profile link or band reference. Do not email a full identity number, bank-account number, PIN or activation code.
- We will contact you if proportionate identity verification is needed. This protects your information from an unauthorised deletion or access request.
Unlink WhatsApp immediately
A linked worker can send UNLINK followed by their PIN to the TapNation WhatsApp balance bot. This revokes that WhatsApp link. If the registration PIN remains valid, the worker can later link the same approved number again; an administrator can revoke and reset the credential when that is not appropriate.
Unlinking WhatsApp does not delete the worker's TapNation profile, tips, payouts or financial records. Use the email process above for a broader request.
What happens next
- We locate the relevant records after completing any necessary identity check.
- We correct, delete, de-identify or restrict information that TapNation is no longer authorised or required to retain, as soon as reasonably practicable.
- Where appropriate, we notify service providers or organisation administrators that received the affected information.
- We notify you of the action taken or explain why a record cannot lawfully be deleted.
Records that may need to be retained
TapNation may retain transaction, payout, tax, fraud-prevention, dispute, security and audit records where required by law or reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights. When full deletion is not permitted, we limit use and access to the continuing purpose. Payment providers may also have independent legal retention duties.
POPIA requests and complaints
POPIA permits data subjects to request correction or deletion of inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, outdated, incomplete, misleading or unlawfully obtained information, and deletion of records a responsible party is no longer authorised to retain. The Information Regulator publishes the prescribed forms and complaint process.
Visit the Information Regulator's POPIA forms or its complaints page.
